If you’re anything like me…you like nice things. But if you’re REALLY like me, you like nice things that you can find on sale! One of the best places to find a great deal on quality/vintage clothes is…drum roll, please…the thrift store. Despite these gold mines, I’ve come to find that a lot of people have quite a few narcissistic notions about thrift stores: they’re dirty, cluttered & only for underprivileged people…which is far from the truth. Okay, well…maybe not the “cluttered” perception, but still. Thrift stores, or “Treasure Chest” as I like to call them, have been my saving grace. I LOVE THEM. While shopping, there’s no better feeling than landing a pair of vintage high-waisted, mustard colored slacks for only eight bucks! You just can’t beat it. I save a lot of money by thrifting and mixing and matching. Between me and you, I wear the same things over-and-over again, but nobody really notices, because of the way I style the garment…but that’s another blog post(coming soon).
So, you’ve never shopped at a thrift store? Don’t know where to begin? Or your last thrifting experience was a complete headache? Read the tips below for a successful thrifting experience. ..
Thrift Tip 1: Know Before You Go
· As I agreed earlier, thrift stores do have a tendency to be extremely cluttered. With that being said, know exactly what your goal is before you get there. Every time I thrift I normally go with 1 or 2 garments in mind(that’s all I have patience for). For instance, I’ll only go to find a pair of high-waisted pants and a couple of button-up shirts. If you haven’t premeditated about the garments you want, prepare to have an anxiety attack. Okay, I’m exaggerating a bit, but do prepare to be over-whelmed…I was my first few times. But once I got the hang of it, it was “all she wrote.”
Thrift Tip 2: Be Picky In Your Selection
· Okay, sooo after 30 minutes of searching for that perfect fuchsia blazer, you finally see something that catches your eye…only problem is it’s 3x’s your appropriate size and has a small hole in the right sleeve. If you don’t plan on getting that garment tailored or sized..LEAVE IT! Although the clothes may be dirt cheap, one must still be selective in her choosing..that money can go to something more valuable. What good is a garment sitting in your closet cluttering up space?…As I once Instagramed, “A man can easily be compared to a garment in your closet…if you have a dress that doesn’t add value to your collection(your life), make you feel beautiful or like you’re one-of-a-kind…..toss that junk….it’s clogging up space.”
Thrift Tip 3: Choose Unique Pieces
-Corky Sweaters
-Bright Blazers
-Funky Patterned Button-Ups
-Colorful Belts
· …you catch my drift. I never buy anything contemporary from the thrift store…that’s what Forever21 is for. The best part about thrifting is lucking up on unique vintage treasures you can’t find anywhere else.
As always…I hope this helpful! Happy Thrifting 🙂
P.S. …to all the “Ambitious Girls” out there….I salute you.
“….the Worker….she’s worth it.”

According to AAA, more than 40 million people will be traveling somewhere for Thanksgiving this year! That’s four times more than last year. ….I’m one of those people!
I’m currently in Nashville getting some much needed TLC from my precious family. Unfortunately to get there, I had to brave extreme traffic, wait in ridiculously long lines and listen to crying babies on a crowded flight. Luckily, I was prepared for the wrath! Below are a few traveling tips that keep me sane while traveling…..
Traveling Doooo’s
DO: Dress Lite – Every single time I travel, I dress for comfort. I wear minimal jewelry, minimal make-up and FLATS..not only for personal reasons, but for my fellow passengers as well. Nothing is worse than being stuck behind the OVERLY dressed “Prima Donna” at the security check point…………nothing. I, also, make sure to layer…you never know how hot or cold it’s going to be. Layering allows you the flexibility to either put on or take off garments to suit your comfort. See how I layered in the pictures above.
DO: Carry a HUGE Satchel: This notion is DO or Die…rocket science…equivalent to the Big Bang Theory – the bigger the purse the more you can bring. I’m sure there’ll be no debate here…
DO: Keep hand sanitizer CLOSE – I’m a super germ-a-phobe. People who sneeze, cough or burp around me without covering their mouth literally make me furious. I can’t count how many uncovered sneezes I’ve encountered while at the airport tonight. If you’re not able to wash your hands, simply squirt a dime-size amount of hand sanitizer in your palm to fight the germs you accumulated while holding the rail of the escalator. Ew.
DO: Bring reading material: Once you’ve tuned out the crying baby, use your traveling time to learn something new or catch up on current events.
DO: Have a Powder puff and Lipgloss handy – Ma always said, “If you don’t have anything else when you travel, make sure you have a powder puff and lipgloss…you never know who you’re gonna meet…”
DO: Bring PATIENCE – This one is the hardest to remember. After you’ve fought your way through traffic and stood at the check-in line for umpteen hours, take a deep breath and try to relax. Although traveling has its downsides, one can actually use this time to regroup, reconnect and refocus.
Hope this is helpful..Happy Traveling! 🙂

The items above stole my attention this August.

  • The Chiffon Trend – This soft, flirty, romantic trend won my heart at first sight. It’s something about the way the wind blows the fabric of the dress that makes me feel beautiful and free.
  • The Messy Bun – I love, love, love messy buns! … They’re easy, comfortable and extremely sexy. “Nothing screams “SEXY” more than a laid-back, comfortable woman.”
  • Chanel Mademoiselle“Sexy, fresh Oriental fragrance recalls the irrepressible spirit of the young Coco Chanel. An elegant, luxurious spray closest in strength and character to the parfum form. Spray lightly on pulse points morning and evening. The classic bottle signifies personal luxury and is a welcome addition to any dressing table.”….— Almost every morning of this summer, I put my make-up on, ran my fingers through my curls, slipped on my heels, stepped in my dress, spritzed Mademoiselle on my wrist, grabbed my purse and walked out the door…feeling sexy as ever.
  • Up The Amp – Out of every lipstick I own, Up The Amp gets the most affection. The pinkish/lavender hue works perfect with my dark skin tone.
  • Carmel Ballet Flats – My carmel ballet flats were my go-to! shoes for those rainy summer days and those dreadful Friday mornings after a long Thursday night! Tip: Although flats have a tendency to shorten the leg, go for a color that is close to your skin tone. This trick will actually elongate the leg.
  • Gold Cross Earrings – It didn’t take long for me to become attached to these dangling darlings. The cross earring trend can create an edgy, yet, sexy look to any outfit.
  • OPI Strawberry Margarita – Okay, let’s face it, this liquid color has been may favorite since 2009. This fun, vibrant, flirty color makes me feel..well….fun, vibrant and flirty. 🙂
  • Grande Coffee Frap Whipped w/Mocha Drizzle – There is absolutely nothing better than this refreshing treat on a hot summer day.
