I’ve always admired sunflowers, mostly, because of how beautifully crafted and pigmented they are. It wasn’t until after a routine trip to the market, I realized how much value this flower really holds.

One lovely Sunday afternoon, my boyfriend and I stopped by Whole Foods to pick-up a couple things. Upon arrival, I was immediately drown to these beautiful, bright, healthy-looking sunflowers. After seconds of contemplating, we picked a batch up and carried on our way.

The next day, I took my flowers to work with me and put them in my Jrink glass. Although Jrink can be a bit pricey, at least the drink is delicious and the glasses make for a nice vase. The flowers looked beautiful and had me on a high the entire day. Everybody that walked by complemented how vibrant and healthy they were.

Before continuing this story, there’s one thing you should know about me – my green thumb doesn’t really work…no matter how hard I try. I’m working on that though, lol. Another thing you should know is I have the cutest pink cubicle at work that has absolutely no access to light. While I don’t have much knowledge about flowers my two colleagues, Tina and Ms. Norma, do. That Monday, Tina stopped by my desk and rendered some helpful advice. She said, “You know sunflowers are very durable flowers. Unfortunately, you don’t have any way to get sunlight over here, but if you keep them hydrated, they’ll last a long time.”

While I had all intentions to keep my beautiful flowers hydrated, it just didn’t happen. By Wednesday morning, the Sunflowers soaked up all the water. Thursday, still no water. The flowers were still looking as if I just bought them, so I didn’t bother refilling the glass. I know, I’m horrible…I told you I was working on it – LIMC is a no judge zone. So, stop judging, lol. Friday morning comes. I walked in the office determined to take care of my flowers that gave me great delight throughout my week. So, I did. As I watered the flowers, I thought to myself, “Despite the fact that there is extremely minimal sunlight and I failed to water these flowers, they STILL managed to stay strong and healthy.”

I wanted to put in that antecedent there, because I wanted to make sure you got it. Despite these flowers’ environment, circumstances and displeasures, they STILL managed to breathe, to live, to exude positivity and to be of great delight to others. I wonder what my sunflowers were thinking while persevering through my neglect to water them. Because they managed to remain vibrant and bright, I can only imagine that an ounce of optimism and faith in knowing I’d water them is what kept them alive. This notion reminds me of the scripture Pslam 30:5, “…Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

On this fine, beautiful Monday, let’s take a lesson from a sunflower and push through our circumstances, our hardships and our unpleasantries by having faith and knowing that joy is right around the corner.

Have a great day, Lovies!

What I’ve Been Up To?:
Honestly? I’ve been….living – dreaming, thinking, doing, being, learning, creating & loving. And this time, I’m not apologizing for it. When I go on these sabbaticals, it’s due to stress and being overwhelmed. Typically, I feel guilty for abandoning my blog for so long. But this time, I don’t feel guilty at all. I took a step back from LipstickInMyCoffee to do all the things I just mentioned and to really figure out my “Why” and purpose of creating it in the first place.

Last year was a BLAST! One of my favorite years to date. Being an NFL Cheerleader for the Baltimore Ravens was literally all I could’ve ever imagined – amazing coaches, amazing teammates and amazing fans. It really doesn’t get any better than that. However, my mind was clouded. While I was fulfilling one passion, I was neglecting another, the most important, my passion to create. As much as I hate to admit it, I was stressed. My career, my relationships and my blog were put on the back burner for a very long time.

I’ve been away so long, because I didn’t want to come back in a place of stress or ambiguity. I wanted to come back fresh with a plan and a strategy in place to really help nurture, inspire and motivate my readers. So, I didn’t. I stayed away until I was ready to bring you strong, aesthetically pleasing, consistent content. I now have the space, the tools, the strategy and the energy I need to breed a beautiful community for LipstickInMyCoffee. That’s incredibly exciting!

What’s New With LIMC?:
For those of you who don’t know, my degree is in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Public Relations. Aside from building this blog, my previous experience stems from being a writer for University Relations at Troy University as well as an Account Executive for CBS Radio. I’ve had the opportunity to build integrated marketing campaigns for local and national businesses – working with Macy’s was my FAVORITE! My passion is creating, whether it be photography, video production, brand/marketing strategy, I love it all! I have two main goals for LipstickInMyCoffee: to foster a community of confident #girlboss creatives and entrepreneurs who appreciate a classic red lip, a vanilla latte(iced or hot), a sexy LBD, a glass of wine, gym dates and “me” time and to exercise my creativity. While LipstickInMyCoffee is going to focus mainly on my personal style, beauty, wellness and lifestyle, I’ll be incorporating more marketing and business bits. I’ll, also, have interviews on the blog showcasing women who are killing it in their industries. Remember the interview with MAC Cosmetics Business Manager? Like that, but more in depth. I have a lot in store for you! Be sure to join the gang, so you never miss a beat. My hope is that my blog helps you cultivate a happy, stylish, healthy life you love!

Because I’ve been away so long, I want to start things off on the right foot – with a GIVEAWAY! On September 1, I’ll be giving away a $50 Giftcard to Sephora. Entering the giveaway is super easy! All you have to do is subscribe to LipstickInMyCoffee’s newsletter and Youtube channel. That’s it. I’ll have a new GRWM Summer Glam video coming out tomorrow, so stay tuned.<3

I hope you guys are just as excited as I am for what’s in-store!

Happy Saturday my loves! Aren’t you glad it’s the weekend. I live for a cozy Saturday morning with absolutely “nothing” to do. I cherish these days, because I don’t get them very often. As of late my weekends have been full of cheerleader duties, i.e. appearances and games, but trust me I am not complaining. I’m uber busy, but having soooo much fun!

Today, le boo and I plan to take it easy, get my car checked out and do some last minute Halloween shopping. We haven’t got our costumes yet, smh!(Yes, we’re that couple that waits until the last minute. Ah, what can you do. Lol.) But first, before we do any of that…..COFFEE.

Here in DC, we’ve been experiencing some major Indian summer vibes. Just last Saturday, I was on the field at M&T Bank Stadium in our Santa outfits taking holiday photos with fans and it was FREEZING! Today, I’m frolicking around the city in rolled up jeans with my sleeves pushed back. But again, I am not complaining, I’ll take as many 70 degree weather days as I can get.

On chilled days like this, I like to be casual and comfortable, but cute – not like I just woke up and threw on my boyfriend’s shirt(….although I did). When I don’t feel like putting too much effort into my outfit I play with prints and textures to jazz the look up a bit. This neutral, olive coat brings the look together. Some jackets will go out of style, but this intricate beauty is a gem. I’m sure it’ll be a staple of mine years to come.   If you don’t have an olive coat in your wardrobe this season, girl, you need to get one. It’s so versatile: you can dress it up or down. I’ve literally worn mine a 1,000 times already. Some of my favorites are here, here and here.

I hope you all have a great weekend and a safe Halloween!

Picture walking into a room with tables draped in black table clothes with an assortment of the latest fall make-up products by MAC Cosmetics waiting for you to dig in and create. Sounds heavenly, right? Well, it was. Wednesday night I attended Nordstrom’s MAC Cosmetics Fall Beauty Class hosted by Brittany B., MAC Business Manager and her awesome team and had a blast. I can’t think of anything better to do on a Wednesday evening than getting the scoop on latest beauty trends and actually applying them in real time all while sipping coffee and munching on cupcakes. Yeah, no….nothing comes to mind.

After the class I was able to catch up with NFL cheerleader, Brittany B. to get the tea on her favorite products and techniques. She, also, dished about one of the biggest mistakes most women make when doing their make-up. Check the clip out below.

Here are my Top 5 picks from the class you absolutely need to get your hands on this season:

1. Strobe Cream, $33.00

Why you need it: As the weather changes, so does our skin. In the colder months, our skin tends to get dryer. This strobe cream is the best way to combat that issue as it serves as a hydrant. Apply this cream to primp the skin for a flawless, luminous application.

2. Liptensity Lipstick – Toast & Butter, $21.00

Why you need it: When I’m in the market for a lipstick, my main concern is texture, color pay-off and longevity. MAC’s new Liptensity Lipsticks fit the bill in every category. Not only that, there are 24 shades to choose from. You’ll be sure to find your perfect match!

3. InstaCurl Lash, $23.00

Why You Need It: In life – yes, it’s that serious – there are mediocre mascaras and there are exceptional mascaras. MAC’s InstaCurl Lash isn’t in either of those categories…it stands alone! Ditch your eyelash curler – You don’t need it with this mascara as you have the option to customize the brush. Make it straight or curvy to accomplish your desired look.

4. Eyeshadow x15: Warm Neutral, $65.00

Why you need it: Fall in love with the most perfect eyeshadow palette this season! These shadows are perfect in texture and pigment. When I first applied Amber lights, a frost based shadow, to my lids, I almost fell out of my chair – no joke! One swipe and you’ll get your life! This palette is literally the only kit you’ll need for your eyes this fall. It encompass every shadow you’ll need from your lid color to your crease color to your highlight. You’re set.

5. Studio Fix Perfecting Stick, $20.00

Why you need it:  Concealers are hit or miss. A lot are either too creamy or not creamy enough with weird undertones. Not this stick, it glides on like a dream, literally. The formula is just right!

Whether you’re a beginner or a pro you should definitely make your way to one of these classes to learn the latest trends and techniques. You will not be disappointed!
